“Filler” is the most loaded word in anime fandom. Here is the calm version of the conversation.

Why filler exists

The anime frequently catches up to the manga it adapts. To avoid running out of story, the production either takes breaks (increasingly common and the healthier choice) or animates anime-original stories — side adventures that do not come from the manga. Those are filler.

The modern era changed

Old-school filler seasons are largely history. Modern production cadences lean on scheduled breaks, which means today’s One Piece anime is tighter to the source than at any point in its history. The “hundreds of filler episodes” reputation is decades out of date.

Our skip policy: calm, not dogmatic

Some filler is excellent. Some is skippable. The fandom’s filler lists are useful, but they are opinions with spreadsheets — and many contain arc-level spoilers in their episode notes, which is exactly what new viewers are trying to avoid.

Our stance:

• First-time viewers: watch in order; the classics-era detours are short and some contain beloved character moments.
• Catch-up viewers on a deadline: consult a spoiler-free filler list (ours keeps episode context vague by design), and never let a list talk you out of an arc finale.

What we will never do

Frame filler as a reason to pirate, or publish “episode X is pointless” spoilers. The countdown on our homepage targets official releases — fill your weekends with those, and the pacing debate takes care of itself.
