The hiatus is over: the One Piece anime returned in early April 2026 — reported for April 5 — and with it came something fans have awaited for years: the Elbaf arc, the fabled land of giants, finally animated as the series sails through its final saga.

A historic production change

This return isn’t just new episodes — it’s a new One Piece. Toei’s production reorganization, announced in October 2025, ended 26 years of effectively continuous weekly production. The anime now targets roughly 26 episodes per year — about half its old output — trading breakneck pacing for breathing room, better scheduling, and (early episodes suggest) noticeably stronger production values.

For context on why that matters: the previous model produced over 1,100 episodes across two and a half decades, and the strain showed in the anime’s roughest stretches. The new cadence is the most fan-positive structural change in the series’ TV history.
