The biggest structural news in the anime’s history: in October 2025, Toei Animation announced a full production reorganization for One Piece — and it changes everything about how the series reaches screens.

• The anime goes on hiatus January–March 2026 — its first scheduled long pause in this era
• Return in April 2026 with the Elbaf arc
• Going forward: roughly 26 episodes per year — about half the old output

Why fans should be happy

For 26 years, One Piece ran an effectively unbroken weekly production — more than 1,100 episodes with almost no breath. The strain of that schedule was visible in the anime’s roughest stretches, and other long-running series have shown what healthier cadences can do for quality.

Toei’s move trades quantity for sustainability: more pre-production time per episode, a schedule that doesn’t run the team into the ground, and room for the production values the final saga deserves. Early word on the Elbaf-era episodes has been positive on exactly those fronts.
